Joe Colsant

Joseph Colsant, a partner at Fawell & Associates, has been practicing law for over 17 years. He began his legal career as an intern with the Cook County State's Attorney's Office before being hired as a prosecutor in DuPage County. As a prosecutor, Joe handled thousands of criminal cases, gaining invaluable courtroom experience and honing his trial skills through hundreds of bench and jury trials.

In 2004, Joe transitioned to criminal defense, dedicating his practice to protecting the rights of individuals accused of criminal offenses. Over the years, he has successfully defended thousands of clients facing charges ranging from DUI and domestic battery to home invasion and armed robbery. A staunch defender of Fourth Amendment rights, Joe is particularly passionate about representing clients charged with narcotics possession and distribution. He handles cases throughout DuPage, Cook, Kane, McHenry, DeKalb, and Kendall Counties, as well as federal cases in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.

Beyond criminal defense, Joe has spent the past 14 years focusing on Immigration and Nationality Law. His immigration practice includes family-based immigration, complex naturalization, political asylum, waivers of inadmissibility, deportation and removal defense, immigrant and non-immigrant visas, and appeals. He regularly represents clients before U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Immigration Court, the Board of Immigration Appeals, the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit.

Joe is an active member of the Illinois State Bar Association, DuPage County Bar Association, DuPage County Criminal Defense Attorneys Bar, Kane County Bar Association, and the American Immigration Lawyers Association.
